Never Stop Saying Yes to New Experiences
As someone who’s built a career around inspiring independent journeys, I practice what I preach – even when it means jumping into freezing Alaskan waters.
Hi, I’m Bonnie Lee, and at 70 years old, I just returned from one of the most exhilarating adventures of my life. My recent Uncruise Adventures trip to Alaska wasn’t just a vacation – it was a masterclass in why we should never stop pushing our boundaries, no matter what stage of life we’re in.
The Power of Saying “Yes” to the Unknown
Throughout my career helping others navigate their independent journeys, I’ve learned that growth happens when we step outside our comfort zones. So when the opportunity arose to experience Alaska’s wilderness, I knew I had to practice what I preach.
What I didn’t expect was to find myself climbing over 799 fallen trees, getting completely soaked during something called “bushwhacking” (which I’d never heard of before), and having a humpback whale stare me down from just 100 feet away.
Lessons from the Last Frontier

Embrace the Unexpected: When our guide started talking about “shooters” – ice formations that suddenly shoot up from the water – I had no idea what was coming. The wave action was so intense, I literally didn’t take a breath for 30 seconds. Sometimes the most breathtaking moments come when we least expect them.
Adventure is What You Make It: Whether I was taking the polar plunge into those freezing waters, exploring the ship’s engine room, or sitting in peaceful silence while kayaking through a secluded bay watching bears walk along the shore, every moment was an opportunity to connect with something bigger than myself.
Mother Nature Doesn’t Disappoint: From the northern lights painting the sky in impossible greens and pinks to watching seals play in the pristine waters, Alaska reminded me that some of life’s greatest gifts can’t be scheduled or guaranteed – they simply happen when we’re open to receiving them.
Why This Matters for Your Journey

As someone who’s dedicated her life to supporting others on their independent paths, this Alaska adventure reinforced something crucial: our capacity for growth and new experiences doesn’t diminish with age – it evolves.
The same courage that helped me build a successful national franchise from my love of travel is the same courage that had me jumping into those Alaskan waters. It’s the same spirit I hope to inspire in everyone I work with.
Your Independent Journey Awaits
I often tell people that turning my passion for travel into a thriving business taught me that the biggest adventures often start with a single “yes.” This Alaska trip was another reminder of that truth.
So I’m curious – what’s the most adventurous thing you’ve done lately? And more importantly, what opportunity are you hesitating to say “yes” to?
Whether it’s starting that business you’ve been dreaming about, taking that trip you’ve been postponing, or simply trying something that scares you a little bit, remember: your independent journey is waiting for you to take the first step.
The Adventure Continues
At 70, I’m proof that our best adventures might still be ahead of us. This Alaska experience reminded me why I’m so passionate about helping others embrace their own independent journeys – because when we say yes to growth, to challenge, and to the unknown, magic happens.
